Building a Strong
Foundation - The Personal Bank Account
|
Strong personal
bank accounts are the foundation upon which your character education
program can be constructed. The
decisions that we make on a daily basis either make deposits into or
withdrawals from our “personal bank accounts”.
This 30 minute presentation will illustrate how to help
students use the concept of personal bank accounts to develop strong
self-esteem. Participants
will be given ample ideas and activities to use in the classroom.

Winners
Walk Tall - a community-based character building program for youth
|
The
session will explain the success of Winners Walk Tall and how easy
it is to start in your school. Volunteer “character coaches”
visit classrooms every week during the school year to present one of
more than 50 ten-minute lessons on the fundamentals of good
behavior. The program is simple and complete; it requires minimal
classroom time with no teacher preparation; it is offered at no cost
to all schools and most importantly, it works!

Never
underestimate the power of story
|
Stories
are one of the three “best” ways to teach character. Why lecture
when telling a story works much better? Quickly learn the basics of
storytelling from a professional storyteller. There is a business
proverb: “facts convince but story sells!”
Never underestimate the power of story.

Teaching with
Less Stress Using the Raise the Responsibility System
|
Would better
social and work skills from students help them to be successful in
your class? This session is about classroom management, maintaining
a respectful, responsible classroom and learning methods by which we
can help students process information while gaining social and work
skills. Students are
taught the 4 levels of behavior and the highest level is the target
for behavior and attitude as well as academic performance. Using the
Kagan Cooperative Learning Structures to process information, we
will model the process by which classbuilding will incorporate good
social and work skills.

Find
Your Star!
|
Find your Star is
a program designed to provide targeted behavior interventions for a
small group of children. Individual students are invited to
participate in a 3 week program that focuses on the individual
student and how they can make better choices.
The final project is a product that the student designs to
give back to the community. Students identify with a mentor who
continues with them throughout the school year.

Goal
Setting
|

a student to set and achieve goals is the number one thing we can do
to raise self-esteem. This
30 minute session will help you to take students through a goal
setting process and to help them follow through to completion.
Topics for discussion include why people don’t set and
achieve goals, how to use the planner for structure, and developing
scoreboards to measure success.

Students
in Search of Character Speak, Let's Listen
|
This
presentation delivers research-based evidence that kids want
direction and yearn for teachers in their lives who are willing to
provide direction; who are able to bring the "big picture"
into focus and make it meaningful; and who care enough to spend
their emotional capital when they are in need of more than academic
assistance.
